Conversation #54: New Year, New You

I guess this is the obligatory resolution post, but I actually wanted to do it.  I woke up feeling great for the first time in weeks.  I have been battling allergies and headaches lately, and finally I woke up feeling rested and ready for the day.  I take that as a blessing and gift from God.  I prayed that I would get a good night sleep, and He provided!

I will do a Christmas recap soon once I get some pics downloaded and some from my sis.  It was a much needed break from work, and I just can’t ever get enough time with family and old friends.  Okay, onto the LIST.

1.  Quiet time with God – I struggle with this always, but I really want to grow in my faith this year.  I’m looking forward to starting a new women’s bible study, and I also hope to read So Long Insecurity by Beth Moore.

2.  Health – I started making good changes last year, but I really want to hit it home this year.  I have always had good goals to work for (trips, weddings, etc), but now I want to keep on the healthy track without a set goal other than to feel better and healthier.  I have struggled with headaches, neck tension and pains, and stomach stuff lately.  I really feel that if I get back to eating better now that the holidays are over and exercise that I will feel a million times better.

3.  Relationships – I found out some things about myself this year during different times of reflection.  I’m critical, selfish, and proud (to name a few).  I really want to give of myself more, especially to family and friends.  I want to put others first, especially my husband.  I want to quit being critical of others because I’m insecure in myself.  I want to be humble and realize I’m not always right.  I want to invest in relationships and be more proactive in building them.

4.  Hobbies – I think I’m lazy these days.  I have so many fun projects waiting on me, but I tend to watch too much TV and give into the tiredness every night.  I want to watch less, read more, and start tackling new sewing challenges without worrying about failing.

5. Organized – I love being organized, but I have a problem putting things away after I set up the organization.  I want to start de-piling my house so that things are neat.  I know it won’t always look like the cover of Better Homes & Gardens, but I can at least have it picked up.

These are the goals for this year.  I know some of these things may need to change once kids come into the picture, but I think that will still be a couple of years away so for now I want to work on where I am.  I hope y’all are looking forward to the new year and I pray that it be a great one for everyone.

Happy 2011!

Okay two ideas for point 3...
1. The Beth Moore study we are doing on Monday nights now at my church is Breaking Free... the best of them all!! It's like being in counseling with yourself! I'm doing it, if you want to join too!! :)
2. Another idea - have you read The Search for Significance? So helpful in reflecting on our own issues too, especially in relation to Christ.
I recommend #1 first. I did her old study of it, and there were so many tears from going through my own stuff. All good and helpful. I grew a ton from it!!

As for the other resolutions... I went back and looked at mine from last year to see I kept none. Blah. So I just gave up this year. Haha.

Conversation #204: My Jesus...

Oh Facebook and social media of all kinds...we have a love hate/relationship.  Lately, these days, I feel it is more hate only because I allow myself to be depressed by things I see.  I recently told someone the other day that I had lost faith in humanity, and then it hit me, that is exactly where I should be.  We are a fallen people in a fallen world, and I should have NO faith in humanity.  Why did that take me 30 years to figure out? So there has been a lot of political/social stuff swirling around, and division among Christians, and I hate it.  Like I said, I have no faith in humanity and realizing that was a good reminder it should ALL be in the Lord.  Even though there are definitely things going on in this world that reject the truth of the Gospel, Jesus, the thing that scares me the most these days is the phrase I alluded to in the title: "my Jesus wouldn't believe this" or "I can't follow a God that would say that" or "I just don't believ...

A Conversation about Absenteeism

Wow!  It has been too long.  I have still kept up on reading everyone’s blogs, but commenting and writing have been out the window for me.  I have thought often about blog topics, and I’ll try to get back on regular posts tomorrow. Basically, the last few weeks have been full of preparing for this past Saturday.  What was this past Saturday, you may ask?  My incredibly intelligent and amazing husband graduated from law school!!!!!!!!!  I can hardly contain my excitement.  I am proud beyond words, and now we just have one last hurdle: the bar exam.  I know the next two and half months will still be full of study, but it still doesn’t squash my excitement of no more late night classes, missed parties, or tension filled finals weeks.  We are done!  I only say “we” because it is definitely a path that affects both the student and family, but trust me, the hubby did ALL the work!  Needless to say though, we had lots of family in town...

Conversation #32: Kitchen Design Help!

Okay, I don’t really know that too many people read this blog since I moved to a new address, but I’m begging if you do, please help me.  I am at a loss on what to do with part of my kitchen. Here is how I painted my kitchen 3 years ago: It was fun, bright, and I like it, but we decided it needed to be a bit more grown-up these days.  I knew we would have to paint it before we moved so we decided to just go ahead and do it now for a change.  We decided to go with a gray so that it would be neutral but not boring.  However, the gray had a strong blue tone to it on the walls and now I need to phase out my turquoise decor I think. Here are some afters (still putting it back together): Some of these are the same shots but with/without flash to show the colors.  I think I really like the new color, but the turquoise trim does not go anymore in my opinion.  I’m trying to figure out what to do with it, and I need help!!! ...
