Brrrr...

First, I would like to thank what few readers I have left for the wonderful birthday wishes!  It was a great time with family and friends, and it is good for me to realize how many people I do have that love me.  Sometimes I get sad because I feel like I struggle with finding good female friendships here.  I have a few, but they are all so much busier than I am so seeing them or talking on a regular basis just seems so challenging.   I'm sure that is part of adult life, and I still love them tons.  Birthdays also make me miss my family, but luckily my parents were able to make it down between snow storms to visit!

Well, most of you are probably in a lot worse shape than we are down here in TX, but man is it cold!  I should be more used to it having grown up in KS, but I have acclimated to down here and these constant below freezing temperatures are brutal.  In the picture above, that looks like snow, but it is actually all ice pellets frozen into one big sheet of ice over everything.  Sorry the picture kind of stinks.  I took it through the window on my phone.

There are still some patches of ice on the roads down here, and school was closed for the third straight day.  However, I got to go to work everyday this week.  Aren't I lucky?  Tuesday and Wednesday were pretty empty, but a few more came in today.  If the city isn't officially closed, you have to take vacation days to stay home and I just didn't want to use vacation on ice days.  I'm lucky since I'm only a mile and a half from work so I can make it in okay.

However, I decided if I had to brave the cold, I was going to be warm.  I know U*gg type boots are fairly polarizing in the blog world, but I'm sorry - they are sooooo warm.  I have Fuggs (as my husband likes to call them for fake u*ggs), and I have worn them everyday this week.  They keep my tootsies warm and are pretty good on the ice compared to my wellies (they are better in rain or snow, not ice).  I wore corduroys the last couple of days too, but I ran out today.  Plus, our electricity surges blew out some of my outlets at my desk so I can't use the space heater right now either.  If my toes are cold, the rest of me is cold.

Anyway, I hope y'all are hunkered down and keeping warm :)

A Conversation about Absenteeism

Wow!  It has been too long.  I have still kept up on reading everyone’s blogs, but commenting and writing have been out the window for me.  I have thought often about blog topics, and I’ll try to get back on regular posts tomorrow. Basically, the last few weeks have been full of preparing for this past Saturday.  What was this past Saturday, you may ask?  My incredibly intelligent and amazing husband graduated from law school!!!!!!!!!  I can hardly contain my excitement.  I am proud beyond words, and now we just have one last hurdle: the bar exam.  I know the next two and half months will still be full of study, but it still doesn’t squash my excitement of no more late night classes, missed parties, or tension filled finals weeks.  We are done!  I only say “we” because it is definitely a path that affects both the student and family, but trust me, the hubby did ALL the work!  Needless to say though, we had lots of family in town...

Conversation #22b: Fashion help!

So we talked about fall weddings a couple of days ago - can a brighter jewel tone work in fall?  I bought this dress on clearance at Target for $13 a couple of days ago: So y'all made me feel pretty good about wearing a sleeveless option and using a pashmina or a cardigan.  I actually have a pretty cute black dress cardigan so here is what I was thinking:  Can I wear this dress in October with black tights and black suede pumps and pull it off?  I think it could be cute, but I need your input.  If not, I might return it (or for $13 I might just keep it because I'm thinking I can wear it to a wedding this Saturday also!)  I realize that this wedding isn't until October, but my MIL was talking about a dress for her so it put it in my mind. Honestly, I'm afraid if I don't start looking now I may forget and then be in real panic mode!  Anyway, thoughts???

Conversation #19: A blast from the past – Monday Movie Review

Ever since the hubby and I ended our blockbuster subscription, we have really not watched too many movies.  Honestly, he has been so busy that we just haven’t had the time.  However, my amazing in-laws have been entertaining me during this bar exam review time, and we went to see the Sorcerer’s Apprentice on Saturday.  (Picture from here .) I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.  It was exciting and thrilling, and in my opinion, I’m not sure I would take a really young child to it (maybe 10 and older…)  It kept my attention, and I don’t think that it drug on too long either.  Sometimes I think these epic type movies go on and on and on, but this ended at a nice time, and it had the most adorable bulldog in the cast, too! I definitely recommend it! (Picture from here .) We also recently watched The Paper Chase .  I guess this movie itself is kind of blast from the past – 1973 to be exact.  Our neighbor actually dropped it in our mailbox as ...
