On the way...

...to hopefully a headache free life.  I have suffered from migraines for a large portion of my life now, and I finally realized I had to do something about it.  I was having to take 3 ibuprofen and go to sleep to get rid of them, and even that didn't always work.  Things sort of came to a head when I had to miss my own birthday dinner with the hubby because I was in bed suffering.  I'm not even sure if I can explain what it is like if you don't get them.

Sometimes I think my hubby has a hard time understanding how painful and debilitating they can be.  He doesn't get migraines and his pain tolerance is something to be admired (I wish he could have a baby).  Actually, I have fought through many, too, because I if I stopped every time I got one, I would be in bed half of the time.  I started keeping a log of my headaches over the last couple of weeks and realized I was getting one every other day so I called my doctor.

I just love my doc - she is great and spends as much time with you as you need.  We ruled out anything serious causing them since I have been getting them for at least 14 years (i.e. a tumor or something of that sort - my mind used to go there a lot until I realized it probably would have killed me by now.)  This will sound really sad and weird, but I usually fear going to the doctor because I'm afraid they will find something bad, and in my weird mind I think I would rather live not knowing.  Crazy, huh?  Anyway, she has started me on a preventive med  that will take a couple of weeks to kick in, but I'm hopeful that after that, my days of headaches are gone!  If this tells you how bad they are, I would rather not be leaving work early to go home and tend to a headache, and I don't even like work that much.

Here's hoping...

Yep, that's the most exciting thing I have to share right now.  Actually, I have some projects I'm working on around the house, and I can't wait to share them.  However, they aren't quite done yet!

I get migraines, but I have learned a few tips to keep them at bay:

- Regular (activator method) chiropractic adjustments
- Magnesium supplements
- Getting enough sleep
- Stopping whatever I am doing the minute I feel one coming on and resting! If I ignore them they get so bad... I am sure you know what I am talking about. Like someone stabbing me in the back of the eye with a poker and then I throw up on top of it!

I am sorry and I really hope that this works for you! Everyone has to find a method of pain control that works for them. Please keep us updated on your progress.

Conversation #32: Kitchen Design Help!

Okay, I don’t really know that too many people read this blog since I moved to a new address, but I’m begging if you do, please help me.  I am at a loss on what to do with part of my kitchen. Here is how I painted my kitchen 3 years ago: It was fun, bright, and I like it, but we decided it needed to be a bit more grown-up these days.  I knew we would have to paint it before we moved so we decided to just go ahead and do it now for a change.  We decided to go with a gray so that it would be neutral but not boring.  However, the gray had a strong blue tone to it on the walls and now I need to phase out my turquoise decor I think. Here are some afters (still putting it back together): Some of these are the same shots but with/without flash to show the colors.  I think I really like the new color, but the turquoise trim does not go anymore in my opinion.  I’m trying to figure out what to do with it, and I need help!!! ...

A Conversation about Absenteeism

Wow!  It has been too long.  I have still kept up on reading everyone’s blogs, but commenting and writing have been out the window for me.  I have thought often about blog topics, and I’ll try to get back on regular posts tomorrow. Basically, the last few weeks have been full of preparing for this past Saturday.  What was this past Saturday, you may ask?  My incredibly intelligent and amazing husband graduated from law school!!!!!!!!!  I can hardly contain my excitement.  I am proud beyond words, and now we just have one last hurdle: the bar exam.  I know the next two and half months will still be full of study, but it still doesn’t squash my excitement of no more late night classes, missed parties, or tension filled finals weeks.  We are done!  I only say “we” because it is definitely a path that affects both the student and family, but trust me, the hubby did ALL the work!  Needless to say though, we had lots of family in town...

Conversation #72: There's creativity and there's creativity

I think most of you know by now that I'm an engineer (still in training, I have to wait until December to apply to take the PE exam, but let's not talk about that - it kind of freaks me out).  Engineers are not generally considered creative, which I actually find sort of funny.  If you think about it, engineers have to be creative because we have to come up with solutions to problems, but I guess when it comes to artsy creative they tend to be lacking. I sort of think I fall in the middle.  I love creating and making things, but I'm sure I do it in an engineer/analytical sort of way.  Take quilting, for example, it is really about geometry in the basic sense.  You can take different basics shapes, and make endless quilts by changing up the fabric or the layout just slightly.  I love that. Anyway, I guess most of my colleagues still fall in the "not so creative" camp.  I had to create a sponsorship sign for a conference at the end of this week for m...
