A DIY Conversation

I have been gone so long!  I hate that too.  I really thought once I updated computers I would be able to blog more often.  However, life has been happening and that definitely comes first.  I’m trying to knock off a lot of items on my ever-growing “to do” list. One of those things was recovering an ottoman we bought at Target with some gift cards back when we got married (5 years ago!)  It was a faux leather, lightly colored, and just didn’t wear very well.  Here is a before picture: I purchased some fabric quite a while ago while Joann Fabrics was having a 50% off sale on their red tag fabrics (kind of the clearance).  I always look for fabric there first to see if they have anything I like.  They had this heavyweight brushed twill fabric in a khaki color – perfect!  I think I paid $5 for two yards of fabric which was more than enough.  Here are some pictures of the recovering process: After this I decided I wanted to a...

A Conversation about Complainers

Is there something in the atmosphere?  Every time I leave my desk at work, I return to find that little red light taunting me.  You know the one: the new voicemail light. I’m not sure why, but I have never really loved voicemails.  I usually listen to them on my phone days after I receive them because I would rather just call the person back.  However, it is a different story at work. Most of you may love that red light.  It might mean a friendly coworker called to chat or maybe your significant other left you a pick-me-up message while you were away at lunch.  On my phone it means that someone doesn’t like something. I love my job, most days, but the warm weather has brought everyone outdoors to linger.  While they linger, the look, and while they look, they start finding things they don’t like.  Someone is speeding, or parking in front of their house, or their children want to play in the street (so where can we put the cars).  I mean...

A Conversation about Housewives…

(picture from: http://www.bestweekever.tv/bwe/images/2009/03/BETHENNY%20FRANKEL%20NATURALLY%20THIN.jpg ) Are you on Team Bethenny or Team Jill?  This is how I have decided the current season of The Real Housewives of New York City is going down.  Honestly,  last season, I found Bethenny and Jill to be very annoying.  However, this season, I am all team Bethenny. Let’s be honest: neither is perfect. I mean Bethenny has made mistakes, but I think she has admitted it and said sorry.  I think Jill completely overreacted and is now sad because she is missing out on all of these exciting moments in Bethenny’s life.  Okay, I don’t really care that much because it is just a show.  But I think for now I’m going with team Bethenny.  I think she is trying to grow up and wants to move on, and I like Alex too.  I have always thought her and Simon were a bit eccentric, but I also think she is pretty level headed. Okay, there is my quick analysis...

A Conversation about Absenteeism

Wow!  It has been too long.  I have still kept up on reading everyone’s blogs, but commenting and writing have been out the window for me.  I have thought often about blog topics, and I’ll try to get back on regular posts tomorrow. Basically, the last few weeks have been full of preparing for this past Saturday.  What was this past Saturday, you may ask?  My incredibly intelligent and amazing husband graduated from law school!!!!!!!!!  I can hardly contain my excitement.  I am proud beyond words, and now we just have one last hurdle: the bar exam.  I know the next two and half months will still be full of study, but it still doesn’t squash my excitement of no more late night classes, missed parties, or tension filled finals weeks.  We are done!  I only say “we” because it is definitely a path that affects both the student and family, but trust me, the hubby did ALL the work!  Needless to say though, we had lots of family in town...

A Conversation about a million different things

Okay, maybe not a million, but a thousand (fine, fine, I’m exaggerating again).  I really have a ton of things I want to blog about, but I just feel like I am too busy.  My wonderful hubby is graduating from law school in a little over a week so I’m frantically , I mean gracefully and calmly planning a party and preparing for family. In the meantime, I will leave you with a few random pictures.   My recent garage sale finds (horrible lighting): The Bassy (Basset Hound) sunbathing: My new favorite pants (I LOVE black cropped pants): Finally, my one pretty peony that bloomed this year (my plants are only in their second season, but I’m hoping next year they will really take off):
