Conversation #131: Oh the challenges...

What is better than one fashion challenge? Why that answer is two! Yep, I am going to attempt to participate in two blog fashion challenges simultaneously as the prompts allow. On the days they don’t coincide…well we’ll just cross that bridge when we get there.

So I think all of us bloggers out there who have an interest in fashion (I’m no “fashion blogger” but it is just what entertains me these days) can probably all agree that some days the outfits are just duds. That happened to me today. I even thought this outfit out, but I don’t love it. However, I didn’t have time to think anymore and work for a local government so I knew no one would care what I looked like. Honestly, I sort of want to wear a prom dress one day just to see if anyone says anything. Ok, they might notice that.

I used to save my “good” outfits for the weekend and pretty much just put on a pair of dress pants and a passable shirt to go to work each day because I knew no one would appreciate my effort of assembling a nice outfit. However, it struck me one day that the majority of my week is spent in work clothes, and I should dress for myself because it made me feel better. Although, now that I care more how will I ever be able to make it on to What Not To Wear, because I would LOVE to shop with Stacey and Clinton, in a heartbeat.
Oh well, I guess this current affinity for fashion blogging is keeping me from looking like a ragamuffin at work so I’ll go with it! The two fashion challenges going on is continuing the ABC challenge but also added Kayla’s 10 day challenge (check it out here). I participated in Kayla’s 21 day challenge a few months ago and had a blast! The two prompts for today – from ABC Fashion Challenge, F – Fur or Feathers and from Kayla’s 10 day challenge, Layers. These actually went well together, but since it is supposed to be a lovely 65 today I had to get creative with the fur and layers so that is why the outfit kind of went south. Anyway, onto the fabulously mediocre outfit of today

Outfit breakdown:
Faux fur vest, JCPenney girls’ section, $14
Dress, J. Crew, $20
Turtleneck, Lands’ End Cavnas, $6 (this is a good estimate, can’t remember for sure)
Necklace, American Eagle Outfitters, $4
Watch, Zodiac, gift (the band smells like vanilla)
Leather Boots, Target, gift
Knee socks, Target, $2 last year

Haha, I loved your comment about being on What Not To Wear! I'd go around in sweats and socks with sandals around town for weeks if it meant having a chance to shop with them.

Love your look btw too...not only super cute, but it looks comfy as well! Always a plus!

You may not have liked it but I do! That vest is great and your boots are super cute.

I think that's a wonderful outfit! Great way to find an outfit that works for both challenges!

Conversation #32: Kitchen Design Help!

Okay, I don’t really know that too many people read this blog since I moved to a new address, but I’m begging if you do, please help me.  I am at a loss on what to do with part of my kitchen. Here is how I painted my kitchen 3 years ago: It was fun, bright, and I like it, but we decided it needed to be a bit more grown-up these days.  I knew we would have to paint it before we moved so we decided to just go ahead and do it now for a change.  We decided to go with a gray so that it would be neutral but not boring.  However, the gray had a strong blue tone to it on the walls and now I need to phase out my turquoise decor I think. Here are some afters (still putting it back together): Some of these are the same shots but with/without flash to show the colors.  I think I really like the new color, but the turquoise trim does not go anymore in my opinion.  I’m trying to figure out what to do with it, and I need help!!! ...

A Conversation about Absenteeism

Wow!  It has been too long.  I have still kept up on reading everyone’s blogs, but commenting and writing have been out the window for me.  I have thought often about blog topics, and I’ll try to get back on regular posts tomorrow. Basically, the last few weeks have been full of preparing for this past Saturday.  What was this past Saturday, you may ask?  My incredibly intelligent and amazing husband graduated from law school!!!!!!!!!  I can hardly contain my excitement.  I am proud beyond words, and now we just have one last hurdle: the bar exam.  I know the next two and half months will still be full of study, but it still doesn’t squash my excitement of no more late night classes, missed parties, or tension filled finals weeks.  We are done!  I only say “we” because it is definitely a path that affects both the student and family, but trust me, the hubby did ALL the work!  Needless to say though, we had lots of family in town...

Conversation #72: There's creativity and there's creativity

I think most of you know by now that I'm an engineer (still in training, I have to wait until December to apply to take the PE exam, but let's not talk about that - it kind of freaks me out).  Engineers are not generally considered creative, which I actually find sort of funny.  If you think about it, engineers have to be creative because we have to come up with solutions to problems, but I guess when it comes to artsy creative they tend to be lacking. I sort of think I fall in the middle.  I love creating and making things, but I'm sure I do it in an engineer/analytical sort of way.  Take quilting, for example, it is really about geometry in the basic sense.  You can take different basics shapes, and make endless quilts by changing up the fabric or the layout just slightly.  I love that. Anyway, I guess most of my colleagues still fall in the "not so creative" camp.  I had to create a sponsorship sign for a conference at the end of this week for m...
